The other night, I was humming a random tune that was in my heart. My 3-year-old asked me, "Mommy, what are you singing?" "Just something I made up," I replied. My husband interjected, "It's the soundtrack of Mommy's life."
It's true. God speaks to me through songs. Day or night, if I listen, I can hear them in my mind. I can join in and sing (or hum) them back to Him. Or I can tune them out. When I listen, I know that I am loved, for the God of the universe takes the time to play a soundtrack to my heart. He doesn't get tired of doing it, either. He makes sure that the right song is queued up at the right time. He knows just what I need. Sometimes it's a song of praise. Sometimes one of affirmation. Sometimes it's fun or beautiful. Occasionally it's dissonant and harsh. Whatever I need is right there for the taking, and the language I need to communicate with Him is provided. So simple. So personal. So real.
So I was thinking, I bet He does this for others too! Maybe it's through music like me, or through words or sunsets or stars or flowers ... the possibilities are endless. What's the language of your heart?
